Verse 85 Chapter 2 Al-baqarah

﴿ ثُمَّ أَنتُمْ هَٰؤُلَاءِ تَقْتُلُونَ أَنفُسَكُمْ وَتُخْرِجُونَ فَرِيقًا مِّنكُم مِّن دِيَارِهِمْ تَظَاهَرُونَ عَلَيْهِم بِالْإِثْمِ وَالْعُدْوَانِ وَإِن يَأْتُوكُمْ أُسَارَىٰ تُفَادُوهُمْ وَهُوَ مُحَرَّمٌ عَلَيْكُمْ إِخْرَاجُهُمْ ۚ أَفَتُؤْمِنُونَ بِبَعْضِ الْكِتَابِ وَتَكْفُرُونَ بِبَعْضٍ ۚ فَمَا جَزَاءُ مَن يَفْعَلُ ذَٰلِكَ مِنكُمْ إِلَّا خِزْيٌ فِي الْحَيَاةِ الدُّنْيَا ۖ وَيَوْمَ الْقِيَامَةِ يُرَدُّونَ إِلَىٰ أَشَدِّ الْعَذَابِ ۗ وَمَا اللَّهُ بِغَافِلٍ عَمَّا تَعْمَلُونَ﴾

[ البقرة: 85]

2:85 لیکن تم ہی ہو جو اپنے ہی لوگوں کو دبا کر رکھتے ہو اور قتل بھی کر ڈالتے ہو اور تمہارے درمیان کوئی کمزور گروه ھو تو انہیں اپنے وطن اور گھروں سے نکال دیتے ہو تم مل جل کر کمزوروں پر ظلم ڈھاتے ہو، پھر جب یہ بےگھر لوگ غیر کے غلام ہو جاتے ہیں اور مال کے عوض چھڑانے کے لئے ) تمہارے پاس لائے جاتے ہیں تو تم فدیہ دے کر انہیں چھڑا بھی لیتے ہو۔ تمہارے لئے ان کا نکال دینا ہی تم پر حرام تھا۔ گویا تم کتاب کے بعض احکام کو تو مانتے ہو اور بعض کے خلاف چلتے ہو۔ اب خود سوچو کہ تم میں جو ایسی حرکت کرے اس کی سزا اس کے سوا اور کیا ہو سکتی ہے کہ دنیا کی زندگی میں رسوائی ہو اور قیامت کے دن سخت عذاب میں ڈال دئے جائیں ۔ جو کچھ تم کرتے ہو اللہ اس سے غافل نہیں ہے۔

 اثم = وہ عمل جس سے فرد یا معاشرے کی توانائی میں کمی آجائے ۔

 عدوان = عداوت = حد سے گزرنا . اخلا قي حدود توڑنا = تشدد

Yet it is you who subdue and slay your own people, and evict a weak faction among

you from their homes. And you support one another in hurting the community and sowing the seeds of discord. And when these homeless people get enslaved by others and are brought to you, you ransom them, whereas it was unlawful for you to evict them in the first place. What! Do you wish to accept one

part of the scripture and reject the other? Think then, what the reward of such

wrongdoing must be - nothing but disgrace in the life of this world, and on the Day of Resurrection the most grievous chastisement. God is not unaware of what you do. 

[The verse is referring to the Jewish community of Madinah (Medina),

but as is always the case in the Qur’an, the commands have a wide historical applicability; in this case, to oppressive societies anywhere anytime. 

Ithm = Any action that depletes individual or communal energy ‘Udwaan and its derivatives

= Wedge = Creating distance between hearts = Discord = Crossing the bounds

of law = Committing excesses = Deeds beyond decency = Transgressing moral

values]
