Chapters Ash-Sharha (94)

PREAMBLE

In the course of the ongoing purification process of the Quran’s fictitious inherited translations, two more Chapters are presented hereunder with their most academic and rational RE-TRANSLATIONS. This re-translation effort gives full cognizance to the Quran’s

literary Arabic style of prose and tries a legal word to word English conversion in an exactly identical style, as against the most substandard and commonplace stuff inherited from an unenviable past and available all around us.

Chapter Ash-Sharha (94)

أَلَمْ نَشْرَحْ لَكَ صَدْرَكَ ﴿١﴾ وَوَضَعْنَا عَنكَ وِزْرَكَ ﴿٢﴾ الَّذِي أَنقَضَ ظَهْرَكَ ﴿٣﴾ وَرَفَعْنَا لَكَ ذِكْرَكَ ﴿٤﴾ فَإِنَّ مَعَ الْعُسْرِ يُسْرًا﴿٥﴾ إِنَّ مَعَ الْعُسْرِ يُسْرًا ﴿٦﴾ فَإِذَا فَرَغْتَ فَانصَبْ ﴿٧﴾ وَإِلَىٰ رَبِّكَ فَارْغَب ﴿٨﴾

 

Transliteration: “Alam nashrah laka sadrak ; wa wadha’naa ‘anka wizrak; allazi anqadha zahrak; wa rafa’naa laka zikrak; fa anna ma’a al’usri Yusra; Inna ma’a al’usri Yusra; fa-izaa faraghta fa-ansab; wa alaa Rabbu-ka fa-arghab.”

Old Traditionist translation: HAVE WE NOT opened up thy heart, and lifted from thee the burden that had weighed so heavily on thy back? And [have We not] raised thee high in dignity? And, behold, with every hardship comes ease: verily, with every hardship comes ease! Hence, when thou art freed [from distress], remain steadfast, and unto thy Sustainer turn with love.

The latest Academic & Rational Translation:

 

94:1-8 “Haven’t we expanded (nashrah – نشرح) your mental abilities (Sadraka – صدرک) in order to help you in your struggle (laka – لک) and thus relinquished (wadha’a – وضع) you from the burden of troubles which weighed heavily on your back? And we then raised you in honor and eminence. Therefore, it must be understood that along with the adversity there’s ease & abundance. Indeed, along with the adversity, there is always ease & abundance. So, when you become free from other things (faraghta – فرغت), set out to establish your command firmly (fa-ansab – فانصب); and towards the goals of your Sustainer (ilaa Rabbi-ka – الیٰ ربّک), remain eagerly desirous & vigilant (fa arghab – فارغب).”

 

Vocabulary:

Shiin-Ra-Ha = to open/enlarge/expand/spread, uncover/disclose/explain.

Sad-Dal-Ra = To return from, come back, proceed, issue or emanate from, go forward, advance or promote, come to pass, happen, emanate from, strike on the chest/breast, commence. Anything that fronts, or faces one; hence breast, chest or bosom [often meaning his mind]. The fore part of anything. Going, or turning back and away.

sadr - heart/breast/chest, mind, prominent place.

اردو متن یہاں سے شروع ہوتا ہے

قرآنِ حکیم کے من گھڑت موروثی تراجم کوملاوٹ سے پاک شفافیت کا حامل بنانے کی کوششوں کے ضمن میں ذیل میں دو مزید سورتیں اپنے تازہ ترین، انتہائی علمی اور شعوری تراجم کے ساتھ پیش کی جارہی ہیں۔ یہ تازہ تراجم قرآن کے کلاسیکل درجے کے ادبی نثری اسلوب کا پورا لحاظ رکھتے ہوئے کوشش کرتے ہیں کہ اُسی کے متماثل اسلوب مِیں ، بزبانِ اُردو،ایک انتہائی قانونی، لفظ بہ لفظ تحویل پیش کی جائے جو ایک ناقابلِ رشک ماضی سے وراثت میں ملے ہوئےاُن غیر معیاری اور عامیانہ تراجم کے بالکل برعکس ہو جو ہمارے چاروں طرف بالعموم دستیاب ہیں۔

سورۃ الشرح [94]

أَلَمْ نَشْرَحْ لَكَ صَدْرَكَ ﴿١﴾ وَوَضَعْنَا عَنكَ وِزْرَكَ ﴿٢﴾ الَّذِي أَنقَضَ ظَهْرَكَ ﴿٣﴾ وَرَفَعْنَا لَكَ ذِكْرَكَ ﴿٤﴾ فَإِنَّ مَعَ الْعُسْرِ يُسْرًا﴿٥﴾ إِنَّ مَعَ الْعُسْرِ يُسْرًا ﴿٦﴾ فَإِذَا فَرَغْتَ فَانصَبْ ﴿٧﴾ وَإِلَىٰ رَبِّكَ فَارْغَب ﴿٨﴾

مروجہ روایتی ترجمہ:

"اے نبیؐ) کیا ہم نے تمہارا سینہ تمہارے لیے کھول نہیں دیا؟ اور تم پر سے وہ بھاری بوجھ اتار دیا و تمہاری کمر توڑے ڈال رہا تھا اور تمہاری خاطر تمہارے ذکر کا آوازہ بلند کر دیا پس حقیقت یہ ہے کہ تنگی کے ساتھ فراخی بھی ہے بے شک تنگی کے ساتھ فراخی بھی ہے.۔۔ لہٰذا جب تم فارغ ہو تو عبادت کی مشقت میں لگ جاؤ۔ اور اپنے رب ہی کی طرف راغب ہو۔" [مودودی]

جدید ترین علمی و شعوری ترجمہ:

"کیا یہ حقیقت نہیں کہ ہم نے تمہاری جدوجہد میں مدد کے لیے [لک] تمہاری ذہنی صلاحیتوں [صدرک] کو وسیع کر دیا [شرح]؛ اور اس طرح تمہیں پریشانیوں کے اس تمام بھاری بوجھ [وزرک] سے آزاد کر دیا [وضعنا] جو تمہاری ذمہ داری بنا ہوا تھا؟ اور پھر ہم نے تمہیں عزت و ناموری [ذکرک] میں بلند کر دیا [رفعنا]۔ پس یہ سمجھ لو کہ مصائب کے ساتھ ساتھ ہی آسانی اور افراط [یسر] بھی آتی ہیں۔ بیشک ہمیشہ مشکلات کے ساتھ ساتھ آسانی اور افراط بھی آتی ہیں۔ تو اب جب بھی تم دیگر ذمہ داریوں سے آزاد ہو جاو[اذا فرغت] تو اپنا نظم نافذ اور قائم کرنے کے لیے ڈٹ جاو[فانصب]؛ اور اپنے پروردگار کے مقاصد کی تکمیل کی جانب [الیٰ ربّک] توجہ سے راغب ہوجاو۔"
